CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
YEN-YEN:Making paper dolls with friends and auntie MARS: Lego and anything with electronics inside FAVORITE TV SHOW: YEN-YEN: Looney Tunes! Sesame Street MARS: Charley's Angels, McGyver, A-team, Bill Bixby's Magic Show FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY: YEN-YEN: When I discovered my brain could do different things- I closed my eyes and I discovered I can think of anything I wanted, ice cream- when there wasn't any, the color red, a hammer, my mom's face… I was four years old- this was a pretty monumental point in my life. MARS: When I was 6, my cousin Amy lived just next door. Every afternoon, we play, climb and run around the slippery rooftops of our houses. Our house is 25 feet tall, and we could see the Makati City skyline up there. I miss those days coz Amy is now in Canada. Amy visited me in Manila 2 years ago. Looking back, we realized we lived a dangerous life running around high places as if we were ninjas. What were we thinking?! NASTIEST ENCOUNTER WITH A TEACHER: YEN-YEN: I forgot to bring my assignment in 3rd grade and got a pinch on my inner thigh. Aray!!! MARS: Cooking class when I was 4, and I don't know how to wear an apron... but I know how to bake cookies, but the teacher embarrased me in class just because of the stupid apron issue. That's child abuse! That teacher was Darth Vader and Prof.Snape combined. BAD ENCOUNTER WITH A SCHOOL BULLY: YEN-YEN: 5th grade, a girl I was playing tag with pulled my collar, when I tagged her. She did it on purpose and we fought like crazy. MARS: I was 5 and enrolled in an international class. The principal, Mrs. Go, was my grandmother. There's this American boy who bullied me one day. I told him to stop else I'll tell the principal and my dad. He got scared of my dad so he also called for his dad ... who happens to be a US Diplomat in the embassy that time. What a show off! AS A KID, WHAT DID YOU WANNA BECOME WHEN YOU GROW UP?: YEN-YEN: A doctor/teacher MARSY: Comedy actor and magician on stage. There was a time I even wanted to be a nun, but every nun i meet tells me I'd fail in the vow of silence. (hehe.) MOST PRECIOUS THING THAT YOU KEEP TODAY: YEN-YEN: My mom's picture MARSY: A framed olive leaf from the Garder of Gethsemane, Jerusalem. It was mentioned that this leaf came from the very old olive tree where Jesus prayed before his Crusifixion. | TRAITS YOU LOOK FOR IN FRIENDS: YEN-YEN: fun, funny, give you a warm, fuzzy feelin' inside (you just know- that comfortable feeling you have with 'em that you can just tell em anything, and they won't judge you) , trustworthy, honest, respects and values you as an individual, respects your opinions even if they differ from yours, encouraging, open-minded, shares common interests MARS: someone who's so full of life, loyal, honest, humble, not selfish with their time, polite, fair... someone like Yen-yen. I love friends who make me feel accepted no matter how different I may be from them. WAS THERE A TIME A FRIEND BROKE YOUR HEART?: YEN-YEN: Yes. I just wanna forget this incident. MARS: My best friend in high school have this sick tendency of being insecure or jealous of other people who are better than her … or happier in life than her. On her wedding, she sabotaged my gown to make sure I won't look good or better than her. I feel awkward wearing sleeveless gowns but since that's what's left to wear, I had no choice. At least, the nice part of the evening was that people in the party said I look great even if I feel so silly in this gown. I still feel sad when I remember Monica. I'm sure the lords of Karma will deal with her someday. (Gosh, I sound like a Buddhist!) NICEST PEOPLE YOU'VE MET?: YEN-YEN: Marsy, my Mama, my friends here ( Ardis, Nini, Heather, Renee, Mark)- You'll meet them too Mars! MARS: Yen-yen and her family. Europeans I've worked with. They're British, Swiss, etc. They are very cultured and professional. I also like my Japanese and Koreans students . RUDEST PEOPLE YOU'VE MET?: YEN-YEN: Some girl I don't even wanna think of right now MARS: Mostly they're Filipinos... sorry. Though I'm nationalistic, I honestly can't stand the crab-mentality in this country. WHAT WAS THE NICEST THING A FRIEND DID FOR YOU?: YEN-YEN: Helped me move my many stuff carrying them without asking for anything in return- showed great example of kindness MARSY: Yen helped me survived my saddest days in college. And she also gave me my happiest memories in college too. my friend Mel helped me find a job one time when i badly needed one. my sister, offers me hope and encouragement when i am feeling down. my friend raul (who was also my former boss), i appreciate the times he respects my ideas even if it contradicts his personal beliefs. My bestfriend at work, Admarie, always defends me from back-stabbers in the office. And i always sleep overnight in her house during typhoons when i get stranded in the office. Another best bud in New York, Liza, gives me inspiration to hold on to my dreams of great achievements. ![]() (left) Marcelle on her 5th birthday, with her older sister, Pauline (right). |
